Announcing: Mightiest and Fairest of all F-Elves

I’m getting old tuning 30 in a couple of days, so I’m thinking it’s time to show you what I’ve done all this time. Apart from all the other things you can, or cannot, find here …

For the last years a huge project of mine was to illustrate Tolkiens Silmarillion. Just for me, just for fun. It was not what you would call determined work. Sometimes the book would sit on my desk for months, buried under a pile of … things and stuff, sometimes I would pick it up read a chapter, sit down and draw, and most of the times I would pick it up read a bit, fall asleep, wake up, and ponder for days on how to draw one theme or another. I drew the first picture around ’07 or ’08 and the last a few weeks ago.

.:.

Before I started with the Silmarillion, I painted a few scenes from the ‚Hobbit‘ (I’ll show you anther time) which I kept simple and naive and a bit childish because I thought it fitted the style of the book and because of the ‚Hobbit‘ actually being an children’s book.

.:.

So now there was this other book, with this ethereal, otherworldly, religious … theme. The first few chapters at any rate. I wanted the paintings from the Silmarillion to be clearly distinguishable from the Hobbit ones, whilst being clearly done by the same person, namely me.

.:.

What I decided to do was to keep the drawings minimalistic and simple but also to spread a wee bit of art nouveau style over it – just because I love it and because I think it suits the elves …

So, anyway – Blog Event!
Yay!
We’re doing it the ususal way: New paintings every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
And we’re starting on Sunday, 20th of October, which means the first painting comes up on October, 21st.
